Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.He proposed using the word "Ahoy" as the standard greeting for answering the telephone. However, Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb, championed "Hello" which eventually became the universally adopted greeting. Alexander would answer the phone with "Ahoy" throughout his life.
